Through a grueling course of treatment, Colin maintained a positive attitude one for which he will forever be remembered.
Colin worked at Liberty Subaru for 5 years first as a Sales Consultant, then as part of our Service Team as a Service Writer, where his love for Subarus really shined. Colin was a diehard 'Subie' fan, and his enthusiasm for Subarus was infectious. Colin owned more than 7 Subarus and could almost always be found under one of the hoods of his cars! This enthusiasm made him an outstanding Subaru employee in both sales and service.
Colin and his brother-in-law, Dan "DJ" Meola (also part of the Liberty Subaru family) formed "Team Liberty" for "The 48 Hours of Tri-State Subaru Enthusiasts Drive for Charity". During this annual rally, teams of Subaru owners from the Tri-State area raise money for The American Cancer Society. The rally begins in our area and ends 48 hours later at Subaru's manufacturing facility in Indiana, where the Outback, the Legacy, and the Tribeca are built.
Last year, we held a successful "Rally Against Cancer" event to raise money for the Colin M. Johnston Memorial Fund for Merkel Cell Carcinoma Research; we raised over $1,000 at our first ever fundraising event. This year we've set the bar a bit higher we would like to raise at least $5,000 and figured we might as well break a Guinness World Record while we're at it!
